The auditing giant KPMG today announced it has completed the acquisition of Link Analytics, an Atlanta, Georgia-based data & analytics (D&A) firm that developed and data analytics products and services. NCSA Project Aims to Create a DNS-Like Service for Data

Researchers at the University of Illinois and its National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) are working to create a “DNS Server for data” that would automatically add structure to unstructured data as users come across it in the wild. The researchers recently received a $10.5-million National Science Foundation grant to develop the software as part of its “Brown Dog” project. Read more…

Intel Goes Graph with Hadoop Distro

Intel will be targeting big retail operations with a new graph database that it unveiled today as part of its Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop version 3 announcement. The graph engine will enable customers to make product or customer recommendations in real time, a la Netflix or Amazon, based on existing data. The chip giant also fleshed out its Hadoop distro with a 20x speedup in encryption functions, a data tokenization option, and a handful of new machine learning algorithms aimed at solving common problems.
