Simba to Provide ODBC Connectivity for Databricks’ Spark SQL
VANCOUVER, B.C., Oct. 15 — Today Simba Technologies Inc., the worldwide leader in Big Data connectivity, and Databricks, the company founded by the creators of Apache Spark — the powerful open-source processing engine that provides blazingly fast and sophisticated analytics, announced that Simba Technologies is providing ODBC connectivity for Databricks’ Spark SQL. The technology pairing creates a powerful business solution for Databricks customers, giving them accessible, high-performance connectivity to their data.
“Spark SQL is the powerful and blazing-fast SQL engine for Apache Spark,” notes Simba Technologies Vice President of Sales Tom Newton. “Integrating Simba Technologies ODBC 3.8 driver further iterates Databricks’ focus on providing state-of-the-art SQL performance with Spark SQL.”
Spark SQL is the Databricks-developed SQL query engine in Apache Spark, an open-source processing engine that is the most active project in the Big Data ecosystem with over 325 contributors in the past 12 months alone. Spark SQL effectively provides data scientists with unified access to structured data, making it easy for users to perform both straightforward SQL queries and complicated algorithmic data analysis.
“As part of the Spark unified platform, Spark SQL enables interactive and large-scale, long-running queries at blazing speeds, as well as seamless access to all of Spark’s advanced analytics capabilities,” explains Ion Stoica, Databricks CEO and U.C. Berkeley Computer Science Professor. “Simba’s ODBC 3.8 connectivity broadens Spark SQL’s reach to a wealth of BI and analytics applications that enterprise users employ.”
